October 5, (THEWILL) – Manchester City easily defeated Copenhagen 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday as Erling Haaland added two more goals to his ever-rising season tally.
As Pep Guardiola’s team cruised to triumph at the Etihad Stadium, Haaland’s first-half brace was followed by a Davit Khocholava own goal, a Riyad Mahrez penalty, and a tap-in from Julian Alvarez.
This is Haaland’s first game after his hat-trick in Sunday’s derby victory against Manchester United and the former Borussia Dortmund star now has 19 goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for the English champions, who need just two points, after a perfect start, to reach the round of 16.
City are unbeaten in their past 22 home UCL games, a streak that began with a 6-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in November 2018. Manchester United, which went on an extended home unbeaten streak of 23 games between 2005 and2009, was the last English team to do so.
On Saturday, City will host Southampton in the English Premier League, while Copenhagen will clash with Nordsjaelland at home in the Danish Superliga.
