Haaland Bags Five As Man City Cruise Past Luton In FA Cup

February 27, (THEWILL) – Erling Haaland was the star of the show as Manchester City cruised into the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 6-2 thrashing of Luton Town on Wednesday evening. The Norwegian striker grabbed an astonishing five goals to take his tally for the season to 27 across all competitions.

Haaland wasted no time in putting the hosts to the sword, firing City in front after just three minutes when played through by Kevin De Bruyne. The 23-year-old doubled the lead 15 minutes later, again set up by De Bruyne, following an incisive move. He completed his hat-trick with five minutes of the first half remaining, delicately lobbing over Tim Krul after De Bruyne selflessly teed him up once more.

Luton briefly threatened a comeback either side of the break, but normal service was soon resumed. Haaland grabbed his fourth, thanks to another De Bruyne assist on 55 minutes, before rounding off the scoring by firing home after good work from Bernardo Silva shortly after for his fifth goal.

Mateo Kovacic added further gloss to the scoreline with a long-range piledriver, but the night belonged to Haaland as City extended their flawless FA Cup run to nine straight wins. The result means Luton cannot emulate their semi-final run of 30 years past, with their priority now avoiding relegation from the top flight.

The frightening form of Haaland appears to be gaining steam in the final third of the 2023/2024 season as the Norwegian continues his assault on the English record books. Few would bet against the free-scoring striker firing City to more silverware this season on the back of displays like this.
