January 31, (THEWILL) – One soldier has been reportedly killed, while two others fatally wounded in an attack by gunmen in Rivers State.
The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday at the boundary between Asari-Toru and the Emohua Local Government Areas of the state.
The gunmen had reportedly ambushed the soldiers close to Ahiankwo market.
Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Rowland Sekibo, who confirmed the attack, said the soldiers were ambushed.
Sekibo said the two injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment in a military hospital on Aba road, Port Harcourt.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations at the Six Division, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Ekeocha, could not be reached for reaction.
He neither responded to the several calls to his phone line nor replied to a text message sent to him at the time of filing the report.
But the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said she got hint of the development.
