October 02, (THEWILL) – Manchester City cruised to a comfortable victory in their UEFA Champions League match against Slovan Bratislava, winning 4-0 on Tuesday evening. The Premier League champions put in a commanding performance, controlling the game and leaving the home side with little answer to their attacking abilities.
Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring for City in the 8th minute, his strike from the edge of the penalty area taking a deflection to find the back of the net. Phil Foden then doubled the visitors’ lead just seven minutes later, curling a superb effort into the bottom corner after receiving a pass from Jeremy Doku.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, with Erling Haaland adding to his impressive goalscoring record in Europe’s premier club competition, netting his 42nd UCL goal in the 58th minute. Rounding the goalkeeper, the Norwegian striker slotted home to extend City’s advantage.
Foden then turned provider in the 74th minute, chipping a delicate pass for James McAtee to slot home and complete the rout. The victory marks a significant turnaround for Pep Guardiola’s side, who had opened their European campaign with a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan.
In contrast, Slovan Bratislava will be left to reflect on a heavy defeat, having also lost their opening fixture 5-1 against Celtic.
