November 04, (THEWILL) – Erling Haaland’s condition has improved significantly, according to Pep Guardiola, who refrained from declaring the Norwegian striker ready for Saturday’s match between Manchester City and Fulham.
Due to what Guardiola described as “ligament damage,” Haaland has missed City’s last two games across all competitions with summer acquisition Julian Alvarez starting in the Norwegian’s place.
The Argentine contributed a goal and an assist in the 3-1 comeback victory over Sevilla in the middle of the week after a barren run in the 1-0 triumph over Leicester City. However, Alvarez’s future as a regular starter remains a mystery as Guardiola steadfastly refused to reveal anything in his pre-game press conference.
Speaking about Haaland, Guardiola said: “He’s much better, so we’ll decide today. We have training this afternoon and then we’ll see. It all depends on himself, his opinion and the doctor’s opinion. It could be 90 minutes or less.”
Guardiola laughed when asked if Alvarez is capable of replacing Haaland for the third time in a week. “He’s so young, at that age you can play every day”, Guardiola replied.
