August 09, (THEWILL) – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed the transfer of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. The Spanish coach made the announcement at a press conference ahead of the Community Shield clash with Manchester United.
Guardiola praised Alvarez’s contribution to the club but revealed that the Argentine striker was keen on a new challenge. The manager emphasised that the player had made it clear he wanted to leave and that both clubs had reached an agreement.

Guardiola added, “Why should he stay if he wanted to leave? We wish him well. Julian thought his time here was over and the two clubs came to an agreement.”
