SAN FRANCISCO, July 18, (THEWILL) – A civil society group, Society for Global Justice, has called for the immediate release of Mr. Gordon Obua, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Obua has been detained at the SSS headquarters in Abuja since Thursday when he was arrested by the operatives of the Service.
But the Society for Global Justice in a statement issued Saturday night by its Executive Director, Mr. Marcus Ogabe, asked the SSS to release Obua unconditionally and with immediate effect.
The statement reads: “Society for Global Justice calls on Nigerians to take note of the tyranical, autocratic and dictatorship tendency of the Muhammadu Buhari Administration as exemplified by the continued incarceration of Mr. Gordon Obua the Chief Security Officer to former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
“Obua has been detained since last Thursday at the headquarters of the State Security Services in Abuja without charge.
“He was also not told the reason for which he is being detained.
“Obuah was asked to be reporting to SSS headquarters in Abuja and reported for one week before he was finally arrested and detained.
“He is being denied access to his family, lawyer and medication.
“Obua has high blood pressure and detaining him without access to his medications may prove disastrous.
“We hereby demand the unconditional release of Mr Obua.”
Lamenting what it described as the gestapo style adopted by SSS operatives who laid siege to the residences of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, in Abuja and Sokoto, the group called for the immediate release of Obua, saying he should be charged to court if he has done any wrong.
