BEVERLY HILLS, December 18, (THEWILL) – La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid have announced that goalkeeper Ivo Grbic has tested positive for coronavirus just two days after making his debut appearance for the side in the Copa del Rey win over Cardassar.
The Croatian, who was signed from NK Lokomotiva Zagreb ahead of the 2020-21 season, was in goal for the entire 90 minutes on Wednesday. Grbic did not have much trouble between the sticks, only having to stop one shot as Atletico won the away tie 3-0 to carry through to the next stage.
In the required Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests on the Atletico squad ahead of hosting Elche in La Liga on Saturday, a positive result for the 24-year-old flagged up.
Los Colchoneros confirmed on Friday that, though the keeper is asymptomatic, he is isolating at home and “following the protocols of the health authorities” strictly.
In his absence, Miguel San Roman, Atletico’s third goalkeeper will step in. He has been an unused substitute on seven occasions in all competitions this season. This might be his opportunity to get some minutes on the card.
