BEVERLY HILLS, April 28, (THEWILL) – Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has directed security agencies to demolish the houses of informants and those supplying arms to bandits in the state.
A statement on Wednesday by the Governor’s spokesman, Yusuf Idris, said the order was with immediate effect.
Idris said Matawalle issued the order when Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto, paid him a sympathy visit over recent attacks on some communities in Zamfara.
Matawalle said punitive measures, including the demolition of houses where informants, weapons suppliers and others aiding banditry were arrested, would henceforth be taken.
He said the action became necessary in order to address the revival of banditry in some parts of the state.
According to him, many people living mostly in the cities were providing information to bandits in the bushes.
“The activities of the informants are creating a lot of problems in the ongoing fight against banditry in the state”, he said.
The Governor also called for the active support of citizens in order to win the fight.
Recently, seven security operatives were arrested for allegedly supplying arms, ammunition, and military kits to bandits in the state.
