October 02, (THEWILL) – John Amos, the Hollywood actor known for his iconic roles in ‘Good Times’ and ‘Roots’, is dead.
He passed away at the age of 84 on August 21, from natural causes, according to a statement released on Tuesday by his son.
Amos, an auto mechanic, rose to fame as James Evans Sr., the strong father figure in the groundbreaking sitcom ‘Good Times’, the first to centre on a Black American family.
Following stints as a social worker and copywriter in New York, Amos finally turned to acting.
For many, his presence, along with the rest of the TV family, made the evenings a delight in the early ’80s.
After ‘Good Times’, Amos found renewed fulfilment in his role in ‘Roots’, where he reconnected with his craft.
Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous TV shows and films.
Amos is remembered by many as a ‘TV father’ and leaves behind a lasting legacy in television and film.
