February 02, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s national Under-17 football team, the Golden Eaglets, will compete in Group B of the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
The Eaglets will face Morocco, South Africa and Zambia in their group matches, which will be held at the Chahid Hamlaoul Stadium in Constantine. The tournament, which is scheduled from April 29 to May 19 in Algeria, will feature three groups in total. Group A will have host, Algeria, Senegal, DR Congo and Somalia, while Group C will comprise Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso and South Sudan.
THEWILL recalls that the Golden Eaglets secured their spot in the tournament by winning the U-17 WAFU B championship held in Cote D’Ivoire in 2022. The team has a strong track record, with two African titles to their name in 2001 and 2007, and five world titles.
The 15th edition of the U-17 AFCON was officially launched at a colourful ceremony held at the Cercle National de l’Armée in Algiers on Wednesday. Matches in Group A will take place at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, while matches in Group C will be hosted at the 1956 Stadium in Annaba.
The top four teams from the 2023 U-17 AFCON will represent Africa at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which is set to take place in Peru from November 10 to December 2.
