October 28, (THEWILL) – German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, will arrive Abuja on Sunday, October 29, on a two-day official visit to Nigeria.

A statement on the official website of the German government, said the visit of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which aims to strengthen Germany’s bilateral relations with Nigeria, will become the first visit of a president or head of state to the West African country since the inauguration of Bola Tinubu on May 29.

Olaf Scholz’s visit has been scheduled for Sunday and Monday respectively, October 29 and 30.

The statement partly read: “With diplomatic relations spanning over 60 years, Germany and Nigeria have a warm and longstanding relationship. They are natural partners as both are the strongest economy and the most populous country on their respective continents.”

According to the German government, the visit intends to accentuate Germany’s appreciation for its strong partnership with Nigeria over the years.

The visit of Olaf Scholz also underlines the importance the German government places in Nigeria’s role in the African region and globally.

During the German Chancellor’s visit, Olaf Scholz will meet with President Tinubu and the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

After the visit, he will proceed to Lagos where he will open a Nigeria-German Business Conference organised by the Nigerian-German Chamber of Commerce.

During Scholz’s Lagos visit, he will interface with representatives of Nigerian civil society as well as with Nigerian start-up entrepreneurs.

The German Chancellor will also take part in a tour of Lagos city to gain insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by the megacity and Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking German business people including CEOs of some of the highest-valued German companies, as well as by a cultural delegation.

The statement said the pattern of the itinerary is so because the visit is also geared towards intensifying the relations in the economic and cultural sectors and exploring opportunities for investment in Nigeria.

Late last month, Germany made a significant commitment of 81 million euros, equivalent to approximately $85.9 million, to support the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in its endeavours to promote peace-building and foster economic development within the region.
