June 02, (THEWILL) – Coco Gauff defeated Martina Trevisan 6-3 6-1 to get to the French Open final, where she will face the sensational Iga Swiatek.
As THEWILL reported, Swiatek was magnificent in defeating Daria Kasatkina, and the world number one will fancy her chances of continuing her winning streak with another French Open title after Gauff won a tense match full of errors in the second semi-final.
Despite the series of blunders that blighted both players, Gauff seized the initiative to reach the final, and the teenager has all the potential and firepower to challenge Swiatek. But, she will have to rediscover her best form.
The most intriguing portion of a first set riddled with errors was Gauff’s complaint to umpire Marijana Veljovic about what she considered to be Trevisan’s excessive noise. A caution did not change anything as Trevisan’s approach remained same. Gauff also did nothing to endear herself to the crowd by continually challenging line calls.
Trevisan summoned the trainer after the first set, and received treatment on her right thigh before ending Gauf’s break streak by holding at the opening of the second. But, she lacked the firepower to hold out the American, who broke in the fourth game and went on to reach her first Grand Slam final.
