Gatti, Milik Headers Give Juve Bragging Rights In Derby Della Mole Against Torino

October 07, (THEWILL) – Juventus secured a vital 2-0 victory over local rivals Torino in Saturday’s Derby della Mole, despite being without several key players. Goals from defenders Federico Gatti and Arkadiusz Milik in the second half proved decisive, as Juve made the most of poor Torino defending from set pieces.

Milik made an immediate impact after coming on at halftime, as his header led to a chaotic goalmouth scramble ending in Gatti forcing the ball home. After a lengthy VAR check, the goal stood despite Milik being offside in the initial play. Juventus doubled their lead just 15 minutes later, with Milik left unmarked to power home a free header from another corner.

Torino goalkeeper, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, was at fault for both goals, flapping indecisively at crosses and failing to command his area. The Serbian was left hopelessly exposed by his defence, which allowed Juve’s players free headers on multiple occasions.

The result leaves Juventus just a point behind second-placed AC Milan in Serie A, while Torino remain marooned in lower mid-table after a lacklustre derby display. Juve Manager, Massimiliano Allegri, will be delighted with the gritty performance, as his injury-hit side showed character to grind out three vital points.

For Torino boss, Ivan Juric, questions will be asked about how his side failed to deal with Juventus’ obvious set-piece threat. The defeat continues Torino’s poor recent derby record, with Juventus now unbeaten in their last 18 matches against their crosstown rivals.
