Garba Pwul Advises Plateau Govt To Obey Court Orders

July 28, (THEWILL) – A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Garba Pwul, has advised the Plateau State Government to always respect the rule of law.

Answering questions from reporters on the subsisting injustice in Langtang North Local Government Council, where the State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, is imposing the APC’s Zulfa Bitrus Ranven on the Council Chairman against Court orders, sacking him and describing him as “impostor”, Pwul said “it is good to respect the rule of law and every responsible citizen, especially in a civilised democracy, should respect the rule of law.”

He also called on the Courts that gave judgement against the sacked chairman to invoke and deploy the appropriate mechanism to enforce the judgement, because it is not always left to the person against whom the judgement was given to enforce the judgement.

Noting that there are consequences for disobeying court orders, he advised the lawyers who got the judgement in favour of their clients to take steps to explore the relevant mechanisms available in the court to enforce the judgement and end the injustice in Langtang North, because it is subsisting at a huge cost to the innocent people of the area.

Pwul reminded lawyers that “you don’t get judgement and go to bed. You have to work to enforce it.”

It will be recalled that there are two valid judgements by courts competent jurisdiction against Zulfa Bitrus Ranven, all declaring his claims to the Council Chair as false. The first judgement by a High Court in Jos upheld Joshua Ubandoma Laven of the PDP as the rightful chairman of the Council, noting that there was no vacancy for the position of Chairman in Langtang North when the last local government elections were conducted, the second judgement by a High Court in Langtang North ruled last month that there was no primary election in Langtang North that produced Zulfa Bitrus Ranven as APC’s candidate for the councils polls.
