SAN FRANCISCO, July 14, (THEWILL) – In line with the current economic reality and to ensure efficiency, cut waste and save money for the provision of more social services, the Yobe State Government Tuesday announced the streamlining of its ministries from 22 to 15.
The announcement of the streamlining which was approved by the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, was contained in a statement signed by the new Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali.
The statement said Governor Gaidam approved the move to “make the ministries in the state more effective in the discharge of their functions and also as a means of cutting the cost of governance”.
The statement read: “As a result of the re-organisation, seven ministries have now formally ceased to exist, including animal and fisheries, higher education, sports, integrated rural development, transport and energy and environment.”
The government also merged the Ministry of Transport with that of works to become Ministry of Works and Transport while the Ministries of Environment and Animal and Fisheries was merged with that of agriculture to become the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
The streamlining also fused the ministries of education and higher education into Ministry of Education while the Ministries of Youth Development, Sports and the community development section of the Ministry of Integrated Rural Development have were merged to become the Ministry of Youths, Sports and Community Development.
