June 13, (THEWILL)- In an epic turn of events for Czech female tennis player, Barbora Krejcikova, whose stock in the Women’s Tennis Association WTA rose with her recent clinching of the women’s singles French Open title on Saturday, she followed that display up on Sunday, by claiming a doubles victory alongside partner Katerina Siniakova.

It meant she continued writing her name in the history books by becoming the first player to complete a sweep at Roland Garros since 2000 when Mary Pierce won in the singles and doubles event at the Grand Slam.

The winning pair of ladies, Krejcikova and Siniakova, remained clearly dominant in the entire women’s doubles draw. They were seeded second and maintained the level expected of their seeding throughout.

They reached the final and completed the win in such supreme form that they lost only one single set in the course of their victorious run at the doubles event of the 2021 French Open. They won the final in straight sets 6-4 6-2 over Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Iga Swiatek, who was last year’s champion at the singles event in Paris.

For Krejcikova and Siniakova, this will be the third Grand Slam they are winning as a pair and their second French Open title after the 2018 title that they also won. Their surge to the top of the game was presaged when the pair won the Roland Garros junior doubles title in 2013, which was the first of the three straight junior Grand Slams they would win as a duo.

From their junior success, the pair of 25-year-olds have established themselves as one of the elite WTA doubles teams, and they proved it once more in Sunday’s final, where they won 81 percent of their first-service points and converted five of their seven break points.

Krejcikova added a first single Grand Slam to her collection in the Saturday final victory over the German Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and will be expected to see a jump in her rankings in both the singles and doubles listings from the next official release.

THEWILL recalls that in 22 October 2018, she became world No. 1 in the WTA doubles rankings. Now, seventh in the doubles ranking and 33rd in the singles, her performance in Paris will see her rise in the updated list.
