Former Ondo Governor Agagu Slumps, Dies

SAN FRANCISCO, September 13, (THEWILL) – Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu died this evening in Lagos, a source familiar with his demise told THEWILL Friday.

Agagu, who also served as Power Minister under the administration of President Olusegun obasanjo reportedly slumped and died.

Agagu, who was also a former Minister of Aviation under the Obasanjo administration, died during a meeting inside his residence.

The source who asked not be named for this report said Agagu had been ill for a while and had just returned from the United States after receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

In his reaction to the development, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko in a statement described his death as most unfortunate and hard to believe.

“This news, to say the least, is most shocking and very hard to believe. It is most unfortunate and indeed a great loss,” Mimiko said.

In the same vein, President of the Senate Senator David Mark lamented over his death and described him as a dependable ally. He also said he was a trust worthy politician and a forthright leader who stood to be counted when it mattered.

He noted that late Agagu neither pretended nor shied away from saying the truth no matter the circumstances, saying that he was one of the few politicians who played matured politics without bitterness.

“As a minister, Agagu distinguished himself as a goal- getter. As the then executive governor of Ondo state, he recorded impressive outing as a performing governor. As a political leader he gave his people a sense of belonging,” Senator Mark added.

He sympathized with the government and people of Ondo state especially the bereaved family saying that Nigeria has lost one her best and fertile minded politician in Agagu.

The deceased politician was born on February 16, 1948.
