Former NAN Editor-In-Chief Needs N15m For Kidney Transplant

BEVERLY HILLS, May 17, (THEWILL) – The family of the former Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Peter Idonije Obakhedo, has appealed to public spirited Nigerians for a N15 million assistance to enable him undergo a kidney transplant.

The journalist is currently bed-ridden at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Speaking to newsmen, the wife of the retired NAN boss, Catherine Obakhedo, said he had been diagnosed with stage-five chronic kidney disease, which is secondary diabetic nephropathy.

According to her, the former 60-year-old Editor-in-Chief had been undergoing dialysis twice a week since 2020 in addition to accompanying medication, which had taken a toll on the family’s financial status.

“This ailment has plundered our entire resources and savings. He needs to undergo a kidney transplant to enable him to live a normal life,” she said.

The N15 million would cover the kidney transplant surgery together with pre-surgical and post-surgical treatments.

She appealed for financial assistance from well-meaning Nigerians and the global community to help the family to raise the money for his treatment.
