July 17, (THEWILL) – Forest Green Rovers have announced the appointment of David Horseman as their new head coach for the upcoming season, overlooking interim manager, Hannah Dingley.
Dingley had become the first woman to take charge of an English Football League club on a caretaker basis after the departure of Duncan Ferguson, as THEWILL earlier reported. However, the club has opted for Horseman, who previously coached Southampton’s Under-23 side and worked alongside Ruben Selles during their English Premier League campaign last season.
Forest Green Chairman, Dale Vince, appreciated Dingley for her temporary role, acknowledging the value of the experience gained. Horseman, who has previously coached at Bristol City and Watford, will be joined by Louis Carey as his assistant at Forest Green. Both coaches bring a wealth of experience and a modern approach to the game, aligning with the club’s own philosophy.
Horseman was both excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead a team with strong values both on and off the pitch. He promised supporters a team characterised by energy, aggression, and a sense of pride.
Meanwhile, Dingley will continue to oversee Forest Green’s upcoming home fixtures against Coventry and Everton Under-21s, before Horseman and Carey assume their new roles. The coaching duo will take charge from Thursday onwards and prepare the team for a behind-closed-doors friendly against Plymouth on Saturday.
