August 19, (THEWILL) – For a club-record sum that might increase to £42.5 million, Nottingham Forest has signed Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolverhampton Wanderers, in continuation of their talent acquisition spree since winning promotion to the English Premier League.
Gibbs-White agreed to a five-year contract worth an initial £25 million plus a set of add-ons. The midfielder and the manager Steve Cooper worked together at the England junior level, winning the Under-17 World Cup together in 2017, and during the player’s 2020/2021 season-long loan to Swansea City.
The announcement of Gibbs-White’s signing coincides with the day Wolves signed winger Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon for a club-record £42.2 million. In the Premier League, only Chelsea has spent more on transfers than Forest this summer; the Blues have paid out £176.5 million, compared to Forest’s £145.5 million.
Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Emmanuel Dennis, Orel Mangala, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards, Remo Freuler, Harry Toffolo, Lewis O’Brien, and Brandon Aguilera have all benefited from the expenditure. Dean Henderson was loaned out from Manchester United, while other agreements were made to bring in Jesse Lingard, Wayne Hennessey, and Cheikhou Kouyata as free agents.
Forest’s season began with a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on the road, but they rebounded last weekend by defeating West Ham 1-0 at the City Ground.
On Saturday afternoon, they go to Everton before gruelling contests against Tottenham and Manchester City.
