June 20, (THEWILL) – Major streets in Efut Musaha Clan in Calabar South Local Government Area were on Monday afternoon flooded, following a downpour.
The worst affected areas included Musaha Lane, Effioawan, New Airport and Bassey street extension.
The community which also hosts the Cross River State University (UNICROSS) has been bearing the brunt of poor drainages as well as heaps of waste which has been left unattended by relevant government agencies.
Residents blame the floods on the absence of drainage systems in the area.
Several houses in the area were flooded during Monday afternoon’s downpour.
A landlord, Mr Okon Effiom appealed to the state government to construct a drainage in the community, saying, “It is the only solution. As long as it keeps raining, this floods will keep reoccurring. ”
The Director-General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, Ayin Princewill, and the Chairperson of Calabar South LGA, Esther Bassey, have yet to visit the area or react to the incident.
