FIFA Task Force Finds No Suspicious Match-Fixing Activity At Women’s World Cup

August 22, (THEWILL) – The FIFA Women’s World Cup Integrity Task Force has completed its work, monitoring betting markets and in-game action during the 64 matches of the 2023 tournament held in Australia and New Zealand.

At a meeting following the event, the task force reported it did not identify any suspicious betting patterns or match-manipulation threats surrounding any of the games. This was the second Women’s World Cup monitored by the Integrity Task Force, which was introduced prior to the 2019 edition of the tournament. The 2023 task force included representatives from law enforcement, the United Nations, INTERPOL, sports betting groups, and others.

During the competition, FIFA centralised real-time collection of betting market data and in-venue surveillance information. The monitoring of betting and on-field action from the group stage through the final on August 20 uncovered no signs of match manipulation.

FIFA’s collaboration with key international sports integrity partners ensured a coordinated response to any potential alert during the event. Each member contributed expertise in investigation and technical matters throughout.

THEWILL notes that FIFA continues working with Confederations, Associations, and other stakeholders to combat match-fixing globally. Suspicious activities can be reported through FIFA’s secure whistleblower system.
