FG Not Negotiating With Zamfara Terrorists – Defence Minister

September 26, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government is not negotiating with terrorists to secure the release of the abducted students of Federal University, Gusau, Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has said.

THEWILL had on Monday, reported that the Zamfara State Government demanded urgent investigation into alleged secret negotiations between some Federal Government agencies engaged in negotiations with bandits without seeking recourse from the State Government.

In a follow-up on Tuesday, the Zamfara State Government said it has enough facts to expose the agents of the Federal Government behind the secret negotiation with bandits.

But in a statement through Hope Attari, Acting Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Badaru on Tuesday, described as misleading, allegations that the government was negotiating with the terrorists.

He said President Bola Tinubu had given marching orders to the military and other security agencies to ensure the release of those abducted.

“The Federal Government is working assiduously round the clock to ensure that the girls and others return home”, he said.

Badaru reassured Zamfara residents and Nigerians at large of the progress being made for the quick return of the female students and others of Federal University, Gusau.

He expressed confidence that the joint security task forces was working discreetly round the clock to get the students rescued.

The Minister also condoled with the families of the girls and others who were abducted, describing the incident as a reprehensible act.

Badaru noted that the order of the president had started yielding results as 13 of the abducted students and 3 others regained their freedom on Monday.

“This feat was achieved through the professional efforts of the military”, he said.
