SAN FRANCISCO, April 12, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government said on Friday that it will assist the Borno State Government in fast-tracking the completion of the Maiduguri 330/132 kV power sub station currently under construction to ensure economic prosperity of the State.
The Minister of State for Power, Hon. Mohammed Wakil , who gave the assurance, also said the Federal Government will further assist the state government to build a renewable energy plant.
“I assure you that I will ensure completion Insha Alalhu for economic prosperity through improved power supply to our state and region. The project will improve power supply to Borno state with new feeders radiated out of the sub station. Plans are also in the pipeline to electrify some of our rural communities to create job and create wealth for our people,” Wakil, who was on a working visit to Borno, his home state, said.
He disclosed that the Federal Government would help the Kashim Shettima Administration to improve the lot of the people of the state through improved power.
“It is my pleasure to invite His Excellency to take advantage of several initiatives which abound in the power sector reforms of the Federal Government. Such partnership will surely, the end benefit the state immensely.
“I am particularly interested in making power improve in Borno, since this is the state I came from and that is the reason for my bringing the head of Transmission Company of Nigeria here today. The whole world is using renewable energy and we will be ready to work with the state government through the Commissioner for Energy,” he said.
Wakil, who said he had come to commiserate with the Borno government and people over the Haram insurgency, said: “I must also note that Your Excellency has served well as peace maker. The various initiatives of your government created a synergy between the efforts of both Federal and State Governments. I however plead for more synergy . Your Excellency as both Federal and State Governments have common goal of bringing peace to our troubled people. We all must reinforce our support and backing for security agencies who are laying down their lives for our common Defence.
“I commend the government of Borno State for been very supportive of the Federal Government. Only such cooperation can benefit our state. In the conflict situation we are, only strong partnership with the center can bring succour to our people .”
Responding to the gesture, Governor Shettima said he was happy at the efforts of the minister , stressing “We believe he can do something on the power challenge of the nation.”
The governor however noted that “Maiduguri has not had it good with power distribution to the town despite its large population,” as he disclosed that Borno was involved in this with the solar power plant and that his government will ensure that the project is kick-started soon.
