May 25, (THEWILL) – Arne Slot has reaffirmed his commitment to Feyenoord, dismissing speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The news on Tottenham’s interest in securing him as their new manager went public recently, but Slot intends to stay with Feyenoord after a remarkable season that saw him guide the team to the Eredivisie title. Negotiations between the two clubs hit a stumbling block due to compensation demands, with Feyenoord seeking £10m for Slot’s departure and an additional £7.5m for his coaching staff, whom he refused to leave behind.
Speaking about his decision, Slot said: “I have heard a lot about the interest of other clubs in me. I am grateful for the appreciation that this expresses, but my wish is to stay with Feyenoord and continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons.
“There are no transfer talks going on and there have been none and yesterday’s discussion was solely about a possible extension. All conversations with Feyenoord are only aimed at that. I look forward to the new season at Feyenoord.”
While Tottenham had engaged in talks with Feyenoord regarding Slot, the breakdown in negotiations means the English Premier League club will explore alternative options for their managerial position. Other potential candidates include Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim and former Spain manager Luis Enrique. Additionally, discussions have included Ange Postecoglou, Thomas Frank, Marco Silva, Brendan Rodgers, and England boss Graham Potter.
