SAN FRANCISCO, August 06, (THEWILL) – Lere Olayinka, the Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the visit of Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, to the United States.
Olayinka in a series of messages on his social media account on Twitter, @OlayinkaLere insisted that the trip by Aisha does not invalidate the judgement against her.
“Has traveling to the US invalidated the judgment that said Aisha Buhari transferred $170,000 to Jefferson’s account?” he asked.
“If they are claiming that another Aisha Buhari was the one involved, shouldn’t they just unravel this mysterious Aisha Buhari.
“Their only defence is: it was another Aisha Buhari that was involved. But I have the Aisha Buhari on tape where she denied.”
THEWILL recalls that Aisha, on Thursday, released pictures of her visit to Washington, USA, contrary to insinuations by Fayose that Aisha has been unable to visit the US because she was wanted for corruption charges.
The governor, while reacting to the freezing of his bank accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said: “I challenge the President’s wife to visit the United States of America to convince Nigerians that she was not the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the judgment convicting William Jefferson.
“It is on record that the president has visited USA three times and his wife did not travel with him. Equally, she ought to have visited USA last year September to chair a United Nations programme but she sent wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki to represent her.”
Aisha denied the allegation and demanded a retraction of the statement threatening a legal action if the retraction was not made within five days and has gone ahead to institute a suit against Fayose who refused to retract but insisted on his allegations and is currently in the US.
