December 5, (THEWILL) – Tragedy struck during an NBA basketball game in Sacramento, California on Monday night, as a fan suffered a fatal medical emergency. Emergency services responded swiftly but were unable to revive the attendee.
The incident occurred early in the contest between the New Orleans Pelicans and home side Sacramento Kings at the iconic Golden 1 Center arena. Medical staff rushed to the stricken fan in the stands when the emergency happened during the first quarter. Despite immediate CPR efforts, the fan sadly passed away.
While the teams played on, shaken spectators watched the dramatic real-life drama unfold around them. The Kings later expressed their deepest sympathies to the deceased’s loved ones. Authorities have not released additional information about the fan’s identity or cause of death.
This was Sacramento’s fourth consecutive home game as they competed to qualify for the NBA’s In-Season Tournament. Their 127-117 defeat to the visiting Pelicans comes ahead of upcoming games against the star-studded Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers this week.
