August 12, (THEWILL) — Opposition leader and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has launched a blistering attack on Senator Francis Fadahunsi, declaring that the lawmaker’s controversial “Kill Accord” remark has exposed what he described as an alleged plot by the APC to rig Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

Frank called for the immediate arrest, prosecution and suspension of the Osun East senator, insisting that public officials who make statements capable of inciting political violence must be held accountable regardless of their status.

THEWILL reports that Frank made the demands in a statement issued on Wednesday amid mounting political tension ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

His intervention comes as controversy continues to trail a viral video showing Fadahunsi, while addressing APC supporters in Ilesa in Yoruba language, allegedly urging them to attack members of the Accord Party.

The senator’s comments have already attracted widespread condemnation from political stakeholders, civil society organisations and sections of the public, prompting the Osun State Police Command to invite him to explain the circumstances surrounding the remarks.

Frank argued that the senator’s alleged statement should not be dismissed as ordinary political rhetoric, insisting it pointed to what he described as a wider strategy to intimidate voters and influence the outcome of the election.

“I condemn the comment of Senator Francis Fadahunsi strongly and call on the security agencies to immediately act, despite his position, to arrest the senator with all urgency”, Frank said.

According to him, the Senate also has a constitutional and moral responsibility to discipline any member whose conduct threatens public peace.

He maintained that allowing such remarks to pass without consequences would embolden politicians to deploy inflammatory rhetoric during elections.

“The Senate must immediately suspend such a senator who can make such unguarded statements. We want to see action taken as an example to every person involved in election violence”, he added.

Frank further alleged that the controversy surrounding the senator’s remarks reflected a broader political agenda ahead of both the Osun governorship election and the 2027 general elections.

According to him, Nigerians should view the incident beyond Osun State because it could provide an indication of how future elections may be conducted if political violence is not decisively addressed.

He also questioned what he described as selective enforcement of the law, arguing that opposition politicians often face swift security action over controversial remarks while members of the ruling party allegedly receive different treatment.

“That is why the APC and the Presidency have remained quiet. If such a statement had been made by an opposition senator or anybody in the opposition, the person would have been in prison by now”, Frank said.

Drawing comparisons with previous actions taken against opposition figures, he insisted that justice must be applied equally irrespective of political affiliation.

The former APC spokesman also appealed to the international community, including the United States Government, the United Kingdom and the European Union, to closely monitor developments surrounding Saturday’s governorship election.

He urged foreign governments and democracy-support institutions to remain vigilant and take appropriate measures, including possible visa restrictions, against political actors whose actions or statements could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.

“I call on the US government, President Donald Trump, the UK, EU and the entire international community not to remain quiet over such an incendiary statement coming from a serving senator in Nigeria”, he stated.

Frank warned that the credibility of the Osun election would serve as a major test for Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, voters must not allow themselves to be intimidated by threats or political pressure.

“The Osun election must not be rigged. The will of the people must count in Osun. Nigerians should not take this Osun election lightly if they decide to rig it. I urge the voters and citizens of Osun State not to be intimidated by these kinds of statements. I ask the voters and the people of Osun to rise up, vote and defend their votes”, he said.

He further warned that Senator Fadahunsi and the APC should be held responsible if violence erupts during or after the election.

“If anything happens in Osun State, this senator and the ruling party must be held responsible”, Frank added.

He also urged the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to remain professional, impartial and non-partisan throughout the electoral process.

According to him, security agencies must resist any attempt to use state institutions to intimidate opposition politicians or suppress legitimate political activities before, during and after the election.

The controversy follows Fadahunsi’s insistence that his widely criticised “Kill Accord” statement was merely metaphorical and intended to encourage APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot box rather than violence.

In a statement issued by his media office titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the senator maintained that his comments were purely political and had been taken out of context.

He stressed that he has consistently supported peaceful, democratic elections and never intended to incite violence against members of any political party.

Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified preparations for Saturday’s governorship election, repeatedly warning political parties and their supporters against hate speech, voter intimidation, political thuggery and every other form of electoral violence, while assuring residents that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.
