March 07, (THEWILL) – The England Football Association is investigating Arsenal’s wild celebrations following their 3-2 Premier League victory over Bournemouth.
Referee Chris Kavanagh reportedly made a note of the celebrations in his post-match report, with substitutes and coaching staff seen running onto the pitch to join in the festivities. Although it is uncertain whether Arsenal will face any disciplinary action, the IFAB Laws of the Game stipulate that only those in the technical area can enter the pitch under “special” circumstances.
The Gunners managed to come from two goals down to secure their win over the Cherries, with the match culminating in a last-gasp winner from substitute Reiss Nelson. Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, was seen charging down the touchline during the celebrations, though it is unclear whether he entered the pitch at any point.
Arsenal has been in hot water with the FA several times this season, having been fined a total of £60,000 for various charges related to failing to control their players. Arteta admitted to getting caught up in the moment during the post-game press conference, saying that the joy in the eyes of the staff, players, and supporters made it all worth it.
Arsenal remain on top of the EPL with 63 points from 26 games. On Thursday, they face Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.
