February 22, (THEWILL) – Liverpool and Everton have both received fines from the England Football Association following a confrontation during the Merseyside derby earlier this month.
The incident occurred in the closing stages of the game at Anfield, which Liverpool won 2-0. Andrew Robertson was involved in the initial clash, before pushing and shoving erupted near the touchline, with players Amadou Onana and Kostas Tsimikas heavily involved.
Both clubs were given a deadline to respond to the charge of failing to ensure their players and benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour. On Wednesday, the FA confirmed that both clubs had accepted the charge.
Everton was fined £40,000, while Liverpool received a sum of £25,000. For Liverpool, this latest development comes after their 5-2 loss to Real Madrid at Anfield, leaving their UEFA Champions League hopes in a precarious position.
Meanwhile, Everton has had a mixed run of form, having won against Leeds in a crucial “six-pointer”, but still remains in a relegation battle, with only one point separating them from the drop zone.
