December 21, (THEWILL) – The mechanical repair works on the rehabilitation of Warri Refinery Petrochemical Company (WRPC) will be completed latest by January 2024, THEWILL reports.

The refinery will also commence operation in March 2024.

Recall that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had in August 2021, approved the award of the contract for the rehabilitation of Warri and Kaduna Refineries at the combined total sum of $1.5 billion.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, along with Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, had in August assured that the Warri refinery would come on stream by the end of the first quarter of 2024.

“Warri will come on stream by the end of the first quarter of next year, and Kaduna will also come on board towards the end of next year. If you add that to the Dangote Refinery, we will be able to stop fuel importation, and Nigerians will enjoy the full benefits of deregulation,” Lokpobiri assured during an inspector tour of Port Harcourt Refinery in August.

Speaking with THEWILL on Thursday, a senior NNPC official with knowledge of the development on ongoing repairs of the refinery said the Warri refinery will commence operation by March 2024.
