July 10, (THEWILL) – Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State team doctor, is reportedly in stable condition, after being assaulted in a federal prison in Florida.
Multiple reports monitored by THEWILL indicate that Nassar was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate. The incident occurred at the United States Penitentiary, Coleman, in Sumter County, where Nassar is serving his sentence.
The 59-year-old, who pleaded guilty to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct in 2018, is infamous for sexually abusing over 300 female gymnasts, and his actions have had far-reaching consequences within the gymnastics community.
In the aftermath of the rejection of his final appeal by the Michigan Supreme Court in June 2022, Nassar is facing repercussions for his crimes. The assault marks a new chapter of these repercussions following his conviction, highlighting the intensity of the anger and animosity directed towards him.
Nassar’s abuse has had a profound impact on the lives of more than 150 women and girls who bravely spoke out against him. The incident further underscored the urgent need for reforms in addressing cases of sexual abuse within the realm of sports, especially involving vulnerable young girls.
