Ex-RATTAWU Chairman Asks NLC, TUC To Unite, Address Plight Of Nigerians

March 13, (THEWILL) – A former chairman of the Kano State chapter of the Radio, Television and Theater Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Comrade Musa Mohammed, has asked the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to unite and address the current plight of Nigerians.

Comrade Mohammed made the call while addressing newsmen at the NUJ Press Centre, Kano, on Wednesday.

“It is with deep concern and unfortunate to observe that the leadership of Nigerian workers and the masses of the country today are not united, which causes the people to suffer unnecessary hardships in the hands of agents of imperialism.

“Both the NLC and the TUC should put their acts together and salvage Nigerian workers and Nigerians generally, especially the masses, from their current predicament.

“We, the veterans, cannot sit down and watch when Nigerians and Nigerian workers are suffering and the two labour unions, which are supposed to champion their cause, are virtually not doing the needful largely due to the disunity among them,” Comrade Mohammed said.

He said it had become necessary for the veterans to voice their concerns about happenings in the labour sector “because we will not want the institution to collapse.”

He also advised the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, to always carry along members of the National Working Committee of the Congress so as to make collective decisions on the welfare of Nigerian workers and the masses.

On the ongoing negotiations for a new national minimum wage, the former Kano RATTAWU leader advised both the NLC and the TUC to bargain for a reasonable wage for Nigerian workers.
