The burial followed funeral prayers attended by members of the deceased’s family, friends, political associates and prominent Nigerians, including businessman Aliko Dangote and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Tukur, who died at 90, passed away only days before his 91st birthday on September 15, bringing to an end the life of a political titan whose career spanned public administration, business and partisan politics.

The late elder statesman served as Governor of the old Gongola State, General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority and Minister of Industries before becoming National Chairman of the PDP in 2012.
September 13, (THEWILL) – The remains of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, have been laid to rest at his family residence in Yola South, Adamawa State.
Tukur, who died at the age of 90, was buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites shortly after funeral prayers attended by family members, friends, political associates and other dignitaries.
Among those who attended the funeral were billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote; Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri; and representatives of the state government.
The burial brought to a close the life of one of Nigeria’s prominent political and business figures, whose career spanned several decades and different political eras.
The family had earlier announced his death in a statement signed by his son, Awwal Tukur.
THEWILL reports that the former PDP chairman died only days before his 91st birthday, which would have been marked on September 15.
Tukur, who held the traditional title of Tafidan Adamawa, was born on September 15, 1935.
From Public Service To Politics
Tukur’s career in public service began long before his emergence as a major figure in national politics.
He served as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) between 1975 and 1982, a period during which Nigeria’s maritime sector played a critical role in the country’s expanding economy.
He later ventured into politics and was elected Governor of the old Gongola State in 1983.
Gongola State, which then covered the present-day Adamawa and Taraba states, was one of the states that emerged from Nigeria’s post-civil war administrative restructuring.
Tukur’s administration was, however, short-lived. The military coup of December 1983 ended the Second Republic and terminated the tenure of elected civilian governors across the country.
After leaving office, Tukur returned to the private sector and founded BHI Holdings, also known as the DADDO Group of Companies.
He subsequently became prominent in African business circles, serving as Executive President of the African Business Roundtable and Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group.

He also held several positions in international business and investment organisations.
Tukur later returned to government under the military administration of General Sani Abacha, serving as Minister of Industries between 1993 and 1995.
He was also involved in Nigeria’s political transition programmes and was a presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC).
Following the return to democratic rule in 1999, Tukur became active in the PDP and eventually rose to the national leadership of the party. In March 2012, he emerged as National Chairman of the PDP
Tukur resigned as National Chairman in January 2014 amid the prolonged crisis.
