Everton Chairman Kenwright Out Of Intensive Care After Cancer Surgery

October 12, (THEWILL) – Everton Chairman, Bill Kenwright, has successfully undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his liver. The 78-year-old was diagnosed with cancer in early August and had the operation six weeks ago.

Though the procedure went well, Kenwright experienced complications, which required an extended stay in intensive care. The club released a statement confirming that Kenwright is now out of intensive care and has returned home to continue his recovery. They expect him to make a full recovery, though it will take time.

Up until the day of his surgery, Kenwright had continued fulfilling all of his duties as chairman. This included facilitating Everton’s proposed takeover by 777 Partners and supporting recruitment over the summer transfer window. Kenwright has always guarded his private life closely. Everton say he is grateful that this has been respected during his health difficulties.

The club hope this privacy will continue to be observed in light of this update on his condition. The 78-year-old first joined Everton’s board in 1989 and has served as Chairman for close to 20 years now. Last month, it was announced that a deal had been struck for 777 Partners to purchase the club from him.

Everton and the wider football community will be relieved that Kenwright’s operation was a success. They will wish him all the best as he focuses on his recovery and return to full health.
