October 24, (THEWILL) – Everton have confirmed the passing of long-serving club chairman, Bill Kenwright, at the age of 78. Kenwright had been at the helm of the Toffees for 19 years after becoming chairman in 2004.
He initially joined the Everton board in 1989 before his True Blue Holdings consortium acquired the club in 1999 when he took on the role of vice-chairman. Kenwright remained chairman even after Farhad Moshiri bought the club in 2016.
In their statement, Everton paid tribute to Kenwright, saying: “The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Everton are with his partner, Jenny Seagrove, his daughter, Lucy Kenwright, grandchildren and everybody who knew and loved him.”
Kenwright leaves behind a legacy at Goodison Park, having overseen the club for nearly two decades. Everton will now begin the process of appointing a new chairman as they look to build on the foundations laid by Kenwright.
His passion for Everton was unmatched and he will be greatly missed by all associated with the club he loved dearly. Kenwright’s passing marks the end of an era at Everton.
