February 03, (THEWILL) – Everton claimed an important point at home against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, fighting back from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw.
The home side found themselves behind early on when Richarlison scored against his former club in just the 4th minute. However, Everton responded well, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin nodding in an equaliser in the 30th minute from a James Tarkowski header across the goal.
Spurs then retook the lead before half-time after some good buildup play down the left. Timo Werner set up James Maddison, who laid the ball off for Richarlison to smash in his second with a clinical first-time finish.
After the break, Tottenham pressed for a third but were denied by some excellent goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford. Both Pedro Porro and Werner saw efforts saved before Maddison also fired at Pickford. Then, Jarrad Branthwaite popped up at the back post from a late set piece to head in an 82nd-minute equaliser for the Toffees.
The point sees Everton move temporarily out of the bottom three while Spurs remain fourth but could drop out of the UEFA Champions League spots this weekend pending other results.
