November 12, (THEWILL) -On Thursday night, Germany thrashed Liechtenstein 9-0 in a Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying goalfest.

After just 11 minutes, Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan scored from the penalty spot to put Die Mannschaft ahead. Liechtenstein had already been reduced to ten men after Jens Hoffer was sent off after nine minutes and things went downhill from there.

Daniel Kaufmann then pushed the ball into his own net on 20 minutes, before Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane scored two minutes later, and Marco Reus followed up with another a minute later as Germany headed into half-time 4-0 up.

Sane made it five shortly after the restart, and late goals from Thomas Muller and Ridle Baku increased the margin, before Muller’s second and Maximilian Goppel’s own goal extended the lead even more.

Germany lead North Macedonia by nine points and are certain to win the group.

In other fixtures, in Group J, North Macedonia had an easy day in Armenia, winning 5-0, with Enis Bardhi scoring a hat-trick with the help of two penalties. North Macedonia remain in second place, one point ahead of Romania, which hosted Iceland and drew 0-0 in Bucharest.

In Group B, Pablo Sarabia scored the game’s only goal as Spain defeated Greece 1-0 to take the lead in the group by a single point after Georgia defeated Sweden 2-0 in Tbilisi, dropping the visitors to second place.

In Group H, Russia thrashed Cyprus 6-0 at home, with five goals coming in the second half, maintaining its two-point lead over Croatia.

Croatia scored seven goals to beat Malta 7-1, while Slovakia and Slovenia drew 2-2 in their regional rivalry.

In Group A, Luxembourg defeated Azerbaijan 3-1 despite Tellur Mutallimov being sent off after only 21 minutes. Luxembourg is now in third place in the group, eight points behind Serbia and Portugal, while Azerbaijan remain at the bottom.
