December 07, (THEWILL) – Samuel Eto’o has apologised on Tuesday, for kneeing an Algeria supporter and cameraman in the face, but he argued that since a contentious World Cup qualifier this year, he has been the victim of “relentless provocation” by Algerian fans.
As THEWILL reported, the incident took place as the 41-year-old president of the Cameroon Federation and ambassador for the Qatar World Cup was leaving Brazil’s 4-1 victory against South Korea on Monday night, in Doha.
A video that went viral on social media showed the four-time African player of the year escaping from those trying to hold him down and kneeing a blogger named Said Sadouni in the face.
The man, a YouTuber, made a video, which he posted on his channel, describing the incident and revealing that he had intimated the police of the assault.
In his defence, Eto’o issued an apology addressed to the public without specifically relating to the fan: “I would like to apologise for losing my temper and reacting in a way that does not match my personality
“I pledge to continue to resist the relentless provocation and daily harassment of some Algerian supporters. I have been the target of insults and allegations of cheating without any evidence”, he added.
