July 24, (THEWILL) – Former soccer goalkeeper and ESPN analyst, Shaka Hislop, suffered a health scare at the Rose Bowl Stadium just moments before the Real Madrid versus AC Milan friendly match was set to begin.
During a routine pre-game segment with co-host Dan Thomas, Hislop suddenly lost consciousness, prompting immediate concern among viewers and colleagues. Medical services were immediately summoned to the scene as Thomas urgently called for assistance. Fellow media employees and stadium personnel swiftly intervened, but the cameras respectfully refrained from focusing on the worrisome scenes.
However, Thomas later assured the public via social media that Hislop was conscious and receiving medical attention, and the analyst himself conveyed that he was “doing well” while discussing the incident with medical personnel.
At halftime, Thomas revealed that they had spoken with Hislop’s family, assuring them that the situation was under control. Hislop was reported to have been “embarrassed,” humbly noting that he did not wish to attract undue attention to himself rather than the game and players. Thomas said that it was still too early to ascertain the exact cause of the incident, but reiterated that Hislop was in good spirits.
Hislop, known for his distinguished international soccer career, including stints with Newcastle, West Ham, Reading, Portsmouth, and Dallas, had 26 caps with Trinidad and Tobago before joining ESPN in 2008 as a respected football analyst.
