SAN FRANCISCO, July 10, (THEWILL) – The English Football Association says it will investigate after England-born Nigerian striker, Adebayo Akinfenwa, alleged he was racially abused by a Fleetwood Town representative.

Akinfenwa, who plays for Wycombe Wanderers, alleged he was called a “fat water buffalo’ on many occasions after his team sealed a place in the League One Play-Off final.

The FA spokesperson said: “We’ve been made aware of the allegation and we’ll be investigating it further”.

Although Akinfenwa and his team mates won the match, the Nigerian striker was not happy because what “should have been an evening of joy and excitement quickly turned into one of anger and frustration”.

The club, Wycombe says it is “fully supportive’ of their player and back all campaigns to end all forms of discrimination”.
