October 26, (THEWILL) – The English Football Association has charged Manchester United, for failing to maintain control of players during Saturday’s Premier League match against Chelsea, after recently being similarly charged in the game with Newcastle.
At the game, late substitute, Scott McTominay, wrapped his arms around Armando Broja, in the penalty area. The referee, Stuart Attwell, immediately pointed to the spot after the Chelsea attacker was brought to the ground under McTominay’s challenge.
Although there was little to complain about, several United players nonetheless hurried to face Attwell, unhappy with his decision. Chelsea took the lead from the spot but United came away with a point. Casemiro’s forceful late header, which Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, had previously deflected into the crossbar drew them level.
An FA’s statement about the United players’ conduct read: “Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 after its fixture versus Chelsea FC on Saturday 22 October 2022 in the Premier League.
“Manchester United FC allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October 2022 to provide a response.”
