June 20, (THEWILL) – England missed their first chance to advance to the Euro 2024 knockout rounds after a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Denmark in Frankfurt. The result leaves qualification to be decided in the final group match.
Harry Kane gave England an early lead, scoring after 18 minutes from Kyle Walker’s cross. The goal made Kane the third England player to score in four different major tournaments. However, England failed to capitalise on their strong start.
Denmark equalised in the 34th minute through Morten Hjulmand’s powerful long-range strike. The midfielder’s shot flew in off the post, catching the England defence off guard and silencing the travelling supporters.
England showed more intent after the break, with Phil Foden hitting the post and Ollie Watkins forcing a save from Kasper Schmeichel. However, they could not find a winner despite introducing fresh attacking talent in Jarrod Bowen and Eberechi Eze.
The draw keeps England top of their group ahead of their final match against Slovenia. Denmark remain third with two points from two games. Both teams still have work to do to ensure their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2024.
