October 04, (THEWILL) – Victims of police brutality awarded compensation by the state judicial panel on #EndSARS, on Monday stormed the streets of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state, to protest non-payment of compensations awarded them.
The protesters, who carried placards with different inscriptions, marched through Barde Way to the Government House.
They called on the state governor, Darius Ishaku, to provide funds for the panel so it can complete its report and submit it to the National Economic Council (NEC).
Some media reports have alleged that the state government has failed to support the panel with the fund to produce its final report.
A source close to the panel also claimed only one month of panelists’ allowances were only approved despite sitting for six months (Nov. 2020- May 2021).
The source added that the panel has not submitted its report due to a lack of funds.
