Emirship Tussle: Police Uncover Plot To Unleash Mayhem In Kano

May 27, (THEWILL)- The Kano State Police Command says it has uncovered plots to unleash mayhem in the state as tension continues to mount over the lingering emirship tussle.

The Command said credible information at its disposal indicated miscreants are planning to unleash mayhem on key locations, including the State House of Assembly

The Police Commissioner in the state, Usaini Gumel, disclosed this at a news conference in Kano, on Sunday night.

“Today, we are here to address you on one very key issue that has to do with the security situation in the state, which you and all of us have been managing together since the issue around the chieftaincy affairs in the state started.

“We have received credible information about miscreants trying to unleash terror locations, particularly the House of Assembly and other key places within the state. It has been verified by so many sources.

“Anybody who wants to test the ground, the security has the capacity to deal with the miscreants. We have perfected plans to embark on serious patrols and detection on locations where we are informed the miscreants are hiding.

“We are going to embark on a house-to-house search. Anybody who feels he is stronger than the law should try it. Kano will remain safe and nobody can override the decision.

“The issue of chieftaincy affairs has been perfected by the executive arm of government. We are standing by the law and we are strictly going to enforce the existing law,” he said.

The Police Commissioner further alleged that some groups have been mobilised and paid to carry out attacks and disrupt peaceful coexistence in the state.

“We as law enforcement agencies are standing by the law and going to enforce the existing law,” he added.

Meanwhile, one of the five dethroned Emirs in the state, Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, has accepted his deposition, describing it as an act of God.

Abdulkadir told the BBC Hausa Service in an interview monitored in Kano that he bears no grudges against anyone over his dethronement, adding that he would not partake in any legal tussle over the issue.
