Ebonyi Govt To Terminate Projects Of Non-performing Contractors

May 27, (THEWILL)- Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has directed the Ministry of Housing to initiate the process of terminating contracts where the contractors have failed to show reasonable commitment.

The Governor stated this at the weekend while inspecting ongoing projects across the State as part of activities marking his first anniversary.

Nwifuru gave the directive while inspecting the housing estate at Ishielu. Although he expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, he decried the low pace of work at the site.

The projects visited included the reconstruction of the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway; Nkaleke Unuphu road, Ogbaga-Nwofe road, Traditional Rulers’ Duplex, Pilot School, Housing Estate for Amaeze/Izzo Communities at Ezillo and Ebonyi State Pipe Production Company.

At the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, the Governor disclosed that the project was awarded at a cost of N17.5 billion, out of which over N15 billion has been paid, adding that the balance will be paid upon completion.

The Governor, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done at the airport, charged the contractor to keep to his promise of completing the project within the next ten days.

“Since our Manifesto is anchored on continuity and consolidation, it has become obligatory that we complete the runway and put it to the standard that everybody will be proud of.

“We made a promise to our people that we will punish our enemies with gigantic projects and we believe God will be with us to fulfil that promise,” he stated.

Governor Nwifuru, who was led around the State Pipe Production Company by the Commissioner for Commerce, Oguzor Offia Nwali, said the revitalisation of the company aligned with his resolve to industrialise the state to create employment.

The Governor led members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, Elders Council, founding fathers and other critical stakeholders to embark on the inspection tour.
