BEVERLY HILLS, April 24, (THEWILL) – The Ancient City of Kano has been thrown into mourning following the death of Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero.
She was the wife of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and the mother of the current monarch, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Also, the late Maryam was a Princess and elder sister to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari.
A source from the palace said Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero, died on Saturday morning in Cairo, Egypt after a protracted illness.
She had been undergoing treatment for an ailment at the hospital in Cairo after being admitted some weeks ago.
The source added that the funeral programme would be officially announced while arrangements were being made to fly her remains back home for burial.
Until her death she held the title of ‘Mai Babban Daki,” accorded the mother of a reigning Emir.
