Emefiele Visits CBN Calabar, Victims Of Fatal Gas Explosion

SAN FRANCISCO, March 14, (THEWILL) – Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Monday visited the Calabar branch of the bank that was rocked by gas explosion on Friday.

The governor, who refused to speak with journalists, also visited the victims of the blast at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

Emefiele inspected the site of the blast before leaving the bank’s premises immediately for Abuja.

Two persons were reported killed in the blast, while several others were injured.
Journalists were not allowed in when the CBN governor visited the victims in the hospital.

THEWILL gathered that victims needing advanced treatment would be transported to facilities elsewhere.

Sources at the apex bank told THEWILL that a gas cylinder belonging to a welding contractor caused the explosion. The cylinder reportedly exploded while the welders were working at the facility.
