Emefiele Meets Bail Condition, Regains Freedom From Kuje Prison

December 23, (THEWILL) – A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has regained freedom from the Kuje Correctional Center after fulfilling his bond requirements.

Spokesperson of the Kuje Correctional Centre, Federal Capital Territory, Adamu Duza, who confirmed the development, said Emefiele was released on Friday.

“I can confirm to you that he (Emefiele) has met his bail conditions, hence he has no reason to remain in our facility. He met his bail condition and was released past 2 pm yesterday (Friday)”, he said.

Emefiele, who is being tried for alleged procurement fraud, was granted N300 million in bail by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.

THEWILL reports that Emefiele, who is being tried for alleged procurement fraud, was on Wednesday, November 22 granted bail in the sum of N300 million by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.

Ruling on his bail application, Justice Hamza Muazu directed the former Apex Bank Chief, to deposit all his travel documents with the court, while he produced two sureties with landed properties in Abuja.

The judge ordered that Emefiele should remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until he meets the bail conditions.
